Bournemouth 0-1 Chelsea: Premier League match report (14/09/2024)

Chelsea edge past Bournemouth to claim first win of the season

Havertz’s second-half strike secures victory for Blues

Chelsea secured their first win of the Premier League season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

Kai Havertz scored the only goal of the game in the 67th minute, latching onto a through ball from Mason Mount and firing past Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto.

The win lifts Chelsea up to eighth in the table, while Bournemouth remain bottom after losing their first two games of the season.

Bournemouth started brightly, but Chelsea took control

Bournemouth started the game brightly and had the first chance of the game when Kieffer Moore headed wide from a Ryan Christie cross.

Chelsea gradually took control of the game, however, and created a number of chances of their own.

Raheem Sterling came close to giving Chelsea the lead in the 25th minute, but his shot was well saved by Neto.

Havertz breaks the deadlock

Chelsea continued to press for the opening goal and were finally rewarded in the 67th minute.

Mason Mount played a through ball to Havertz, who took a touch before firing past Neto into the bottom corner.

Bournemouth pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Chelsea held on to claim all three points.

Conclusion

Chelsea’s win over Bournemouth was a much-needed victory for the Blues, who had lost their opening game of the season to Manchester United.

The win will give Chelsea confidence going into their next game, which is at home to West Ham United on Saturday.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back from their defeat when they travel to Fulham next weekend.
